Mass Effect’s PC Specs Are Managable

Mass Effect was my choice for 2007 Game of the Year, but unfortunately it was overshadowed by some game about father-oriented parenting, or biology class or something. Regardless, the Xbox 360 hit was announced a while ago that it would be making its way to the PC, with the promise of quicker loadtimes and less pop-up bringing glee to fanboys everywhere. Now, thanks to their official forums, BioWare has posted both the minimum and recommended requirements.

Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows XP/Vista
Processor: 2.40GHz Intel or 2.00GHz AMD
Memory: 1GB RAM (XP) / 2GB RAM (Vista)
HDD Space: 12GB
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 6800GT / ATi 1300XT (X1550, X1600 Pro, HD2400 below MSR)
Sound Card: Any DirectX 9.0c compatible card

Now that we know what is required to get the game to technically run on your PC, let’s have a look at what you will need to get it to actually play:

Recommended System Requirements:
OS: Windows XP / Vista
Processor: 2.60GHz Intel / 2.40GHz AMD
Memory: 2GB RAM
HDD Space: 12GB
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX or above / ATi X1800 XL or above
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible (5.1 sound card recommended)

Not too bad. I’m kind of pissed about the fact that, as a Vista owner (I’m a sucker, I know) I’ll have to buy another GB or RAM to play a game I’ve been dying for, but overall it looks like pretty forgiving specs. Props to BioWare.
