Speaking with videogaming247, Nintendo Europe’s senior marketing director, Laurent Fischer, has only two words for the hordes of geeks and otaku who were offended by his comment earlier this week: I’m Sorry.
I have huge respect for those who, like me, share a common passion for Nintendo and want to make it clear that I would never use and I didn’t use this terminology in such a context or way to cause offense.
I regret that this misunderstanding has created such offense and disappointment within the community.
That’s right, dudes and dolls! After one week, Nintendo Europe’s top dog has apologized and has come begging your forgiveness… well, not necessarily begging. But he’d think you were cool if you gave him another chance.
Now, maybe I’m reading too much into this, and if I’m the only one who feels this way I’ll shut up, but doesn’t this seem a little… I don’t know, forced? When you read it, it kind of sounds like he’s apologizing for people misunderstanding what he said, not for saying it. Kind of like if you were to go up to somebody and say “I’m sorry you’re fat, fatty.” Either way, he’s said sorry and now it’s up to the Nintendo fanboys to judge him.
