Killzone 2 Delayed

Dudes and dolls who are waiting for Killzone 2 may be waiting a little bit longer. That’s right, people: Sony has delayed Killzone 2. Go on, I’ll give you a moment to weep.

Okay, now that we’ve mourned the delay of Killzone 2, let’s get into why the game was delayed to begin with. It didn’t have to do with a snag with the development cycle, or leaked source code, or even so they could “polish” some of the rougher edges. Killzone 2 was delayed solely because there were already more than enough PS3 titles coming out this fall. SCEA’s Ron Eagle explained:

Just wanted to add a quick reply on the ‘delay’ of Killzone 2 to Feb 2009. To be clear, there is nothing wrong or causing a delay to the development of the title. We (SECA) had to look at the fall calendar with SOCOM, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Resistance 2, plus some PSN titles and make a decision where each game should come out. Killzone 2 was moved to Feb 2009 to make sure we didn’t have three shooters in the marketplace competing for retail dollars during the same holiday season. The game will be great and it will be out in Feb 2009 in both Europe and North America.

Well, sounds like a good idea to me. I can’t speak for others, but I know for a fact that once I get my hands on the new SOCOM, I won’t be reachable for a good week. It doesn’t hurt that game publishers are starting to stretch out releases of top-tier titles into months that are usually devoid of any gaming activity, either.
