Let me preface this by saying that David Jaffe is a badass. In fact, I hear he once lifted a school bus full of orphans and threw it into a volcano because Taco Bell put Mild Sauce on his Chalupa when he distinctly asked for Fire.* Anyways, when we all heard that Brent Ratner was signed on to direct the God of War movie, there was no shortage of mixed emotion on the matter.
Personally, I think Brett Ratner is a no-talent hack, but then again I’ve never directed anything in my life so, really, what does that make me?
Jaffe, on the other hand, was excited at the news, and he expressed his excitement in a video blog posted on his blogger site personal blog:
In-between Jaffe’s rambling about coffee (hey, coffee does that to ya. Look at this post, for instance), David says that while he was hopeful that it would’ve been a Ridley Scott or a Steven Spielberg, he’s more than happy that Sony got Brett Ratner for the movie.
So you can imagine the unabashed rage Jaffe felt when he saw THIS piece on G4’s The Feed (who we also love) that says that Jaffe doesn’t care if God of War was a financial success or failure. In fact, we here at Binge Gamer have super-duper confirmed reports that Jaffe scalded his maid with a fresh cup of Starbucks coffee**, ran outside in his satin black underoos***, and beat a homeless man to death with a frozen chicken carcass****.
Here is just a snippet of Jaffe’s unrepentant RAGE over such an insinuation:
Wow-where in the world did I ever say I wouldn’t really care if the film financially flops or hits?!? I think my video post and update made it clear I am a fan of the GOD OF WAR universe and the folks making the movie and I have high hopes for it. Yes, I will make no MONEY off of it, but that does not mean I don’t care if it’s a financial hit and I have no fucking clue why you would assume such a thing. In fact the whole point of my update was that money- or lack of money- is NOT the reason I am positive about the movie. I don’t think I ever stated if I cared if the film was a hit or not. But my actions- saying I think the film is in good hands and I wish it well- should indicate which side my toast is buttered on. But to spell it out for you: yes, I would very much like the GOD OF WAR movie to be a hit.
…well, that was surprisingly tame. Anyways, there you go.
We love G4, just as we love Jaffe. So when something like this happens, it’s kind of like watching out parents fight. It’s just thoroughly uncomfortable in every way. However, when push comes to shove we have to side with Jaffe… this time.
*Actually, I made that up.
**No we don’t.
***Now we’re just being silly.
****…strangely enough, we’re not sure about the last one.
