Gunpei Would Be Proud: Virtual Boy FINALLY Finds an Audience

When Gunpei Yokoi, the mastermind behind the Game Boy, envisioned what would become the ill-fated Virtual Boy, nobody is quite sure what he was thinking. He may have wanted to create the first true 3D video game system, but in the end it was a giant mess that ultimately cost Yokoi his position at Nintendo.

If Yokoi were alive today, he may be proud to see that his console has finally found an audience: collectors. The Virtual Boy was a colossal failure when it was first released, but in recent years has gained a strong following amongst video game collectors, and when a box of Game Boy’s red-cased step children were discovered in the United Arab Eremites of all places, they went quick.

Damn quick. If only I had known, so I could pick one up.
