Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is proving to be a hype machine, with Aerosmith fans foaming at the mouth to finally be able to jam with Steven, Joe and… um… those… other guys… to some of rock music’s all-time classics. Now, Guitar Hero is about to get a whole lot more metal.

Details in recent SEC filings by Activision have confirmed that the publisher is working on a new Guitar Hero title featuring one of the greatest metal acts of our time, Metallica. According to the SEC filing, Activision is working on bringing four seperate Guitar Hero titles to the market in fiscal 2009: Guitar Hero: On Tour for the Nintendo DS (Oh, God…), Guitar Hero IV, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero: Metallica.

While no platforms were listed in the filing, it would be a safe bet to assume that Guitar Hero: Metallica will be available on the PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360. No word as to whether Napster founder Shawn Fanning will be a boss character.
