Today has been… less than fulfilling on the news front. That is the only reason why I’m passing along the story that GamePro thinks Metal Gear Solid IV is good.
That, and GamePro says that MGS4 is “without a doubt, one of the greatest games of all time”, a sentiment they repeated in their final score, which was a perfect 5.0. To me, when a publication — even GamePro — says that a game is one of the all-time greats, it’s going to get my attention. Especially when the introduction paragraph reads with this lovely piece of hype-induced gawkery:
Metal Gear Solid 5 is a masterpiece, an unforgettable game that shines like a beacon amidst a sea of mediocrity.
Oh, give me a break! You wrote that in hopes that it would be excerpted in TV commercials and magazines, didn’t you? The review is chock full o’ lines like that, which borderline on verbal fellatio for the game. Well deserved verbal fellatio that I’m sure will still understate the true awesomeness of the game once I’ve sat down with it for a few hours, but verbal fellatio nonetheless.
GamePro subscribers will soon be able to look at the review for themselves, while those of us who don’t read GamePro will just have to wait for the release date of June 12th.
