G4 Finally Gets It Right, Extends X-Play to One Hour

You may or may not know this, but I’m a bit of a fan of G4’s X-Play. Hell, we pass along Sessler’s Soapbox every single week. However, the show is far from perfect. The reviews are too brief, sometimes devoid of any “meat and potatoes”, T-Squared is a douchebag, and the show’s overall format was simply overloading the brief 22-minute timeslot for the program.

Thankfully, G4 will be fixing one of these problems this December, when X-Play is extended for a full one-hour. During Mr. Tiles’ most recent Open Source features on G4’s website:

I’m excited to announce that X-play will expand to one full hour each weeknight for the month of December as we take a look at all the holiday releases and look forward to 2009 titles…this is a trial as well with the hope that if X-play experiences marked growth during the month we will seek to expand the show permanently later on in early 2009.

I’ve been watching X-Play for ten years now, going back through the days of Extended Play and even to GameSpot TV. The fact that it took ten years for people to realize that this was prime to be a one-hour show is kind of absurd.

Let’s hope it sticks in 2009.
