Firmware Update 2.40: A Console Killer?

Video of the Brickage

As you probably know, Sony released their long awaited 2.40 Firmware Update early this morning, with fanboys squealing in absolute delight at the notion of earning trophies and having, at last, an in-game XMB. However, not all is well in Sony land, and many PSTriple owners are now complaining that the update has bricked their console.

Apparently, after installing the update some users go to launch their consoles and are met with a blank, black screen. This problem isn’t confined to a specific console SKU, either. 20, 40, 60 or 80GB — they’re all having this problem.

Don’t fret too much if you do own a console with this problem, for you see there is a fix, and all it will cost you is your save data. You see, some users have found success in physically removing the hard drive, formatting said hard drive (using a PC, I assume), reinstalling it and formatting it again for the PS3. I’m not saying you should try that, but I am saying that it’s worked for some people.

Personally, I’ve not had any issues of this magnitude with my 2.40 update. However, ever since I’ve installed the update I can’t get a stable wireless connection to save my life. I must’ve been disconnected from MGO four or five times last night after I installed.

Anybody else having problems?
