You would think that when you have the most popular and successful console, and four of the top five best selling games are for that very console, you would expect that you would have a high demand, right? Well, apparently not if you are Nintendo.
Reggie Fils-Aime, who is no stranger to deflecting the criticisms regarding Nintendo’s inability to meet holiday demand, recently stated that he feels that Nintendo will be able to meet the demand for the Wii itself. However, he followed that up by saying that Nintendo won’t be able to meet the demand for one of the system’s top games, Wii Fit.
With Wii hardware, I think we’ve got a good shot at meeting demand during the holidays… With ‘Wii Fit,’ I know we’ll fall short. That’s a product we have consumers lining up for each morning outside of our Nintendo World store [in New York City].
Later on in that very same interview, Reggie expressed a bit of disdain towards third party developers and their inability to release a good game for the system:
I will be able to say our licensees ‘get it’ when their very best content is on our platform. And with very few exceptions today, that’s not the case.
While the initial reaction would be to get irritated with Nintendo and their continued refusal inability to meet demand, I find that as this enters the third year in a row with this crap, I’ve started to not care.
But at least I’ll be able to find a Wii this year. Hopefully.
