With the holiday season fast approaching and Microsoft already slashing the price of the Xbox 360 to compete with Nintendo, one would think that the Big N would want to follow suit, right?
Nope. As Reggie Fils-Aime more or less says, why would Nintendo bother with a price drop when stores still can’t keep the damn thing in stock?
The consumer is voting with their wallet and their pocketbooks that the Wii and the DS represent fantastic values. So far this year, month in and month out, the Wii and DS have been number one and number two selling systems for the month. That suggest our value equation is finely tuned at this point… There is no need for price cuts on our systems today.
The moral of the story? If you want a system to drop in price, you have to not buy it. As long as Nintendo can’t keep the Wii on shelves, they’re not going to drop the price of the thing. Hell, they may never drop the price of the Wii — not until they announce the Wii’s successor, anyways.
