Favre to Remain a Packer — on Madden 09 Cover

The drama that has been surrounding Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers in the wake of his decision to come out of retirement has been front page news on ESPN for over a month. Why does he want to come back? Why won’t Green Bay take him back? Who the hell issues their employees cell phones and doesn’t confiscate them when said employee quits?

There has been one question that hasn’t been asked yet, however. While listening to “All Night with Jason Smith” on ESPN Radio, the question was asked: If Favre returns to the NFL on a different team, what will happen to the Madden cover? Me, being an insomniac, immediately emailed EA with that very question before climbing into bed. EA’s Tyrone Miller wrote me back with this response:

Madden NFL 09 will ship on August 12 with Brett Favre in a GB jersey, no matter what. If he is traded to another team, we look forward to exploring various ways to capture that.

So there you go. No matter what happens, Brett Favre will forever be a Green Bay Packer in at least one sense.
