Last year the big “celebrity” at E For All was “professional gamer” (insert eye roll/facepalm) Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel. I guess that Wendel was a popular attraction because IDG World Expo just announced that Fatal1ty will be returning to E For All in 2008.
There is no one else in the video game industry quite like Fatal1ty and we’re thrilled he’s returning to E for All,†said Mary Dolaher, Chief Executive Officer of IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows and events around the globe. “He’ll bring much excitement and attention to the show and we’re eager to see him interact with the fans, which is what he does best.”
I would like to argue that last claim. After all, I would imagine that what he does best is playing first-person shooters — and I would even argue that he is the “best”. His “skills” have an inflated perception due to his sponsorship deals with companies like Creative and nVidia — sponsorship deals that he didn’t so much earn for being the best, but rather for being the first.
Anyways, almost immediately after the announcement was made by the folks behind E For All, Penny Arcade issued their own statement that confirmed that they are truly pleased that Jonathan Wendel will NOT be attending PAX.
There is no one else in the video game industry quite like Fatal1ty and we’re thrilled that he won’t be attending our show,” said Gabe, Chief Executive Officer of the Penny Arcade Expo, the greatest video game festival in the universe. “Seriously, if he even tries to come we’ll kick him out.”
Now, this can be taken one of three ways: A.) This is Penny Arcade’s jab at E For All for essentially trying to crash PAX 2007. B.) Mindless fun on tha part of PA because they simply have nothing else to do. C.) A self-absorbed dick mocking another self-absurbed dick, in which case I, a self-absorbed dick in my own right, cordially invite them both to shut the fuck up and just play games.
