Eidos Parent Company Looking to EA, Ubisoft for Buyout

The story about Midway being sold for $100K may have been the most laughably depressing news of the day, but it is far from the only bad financial news. According to the UK rag the Daily Mail, Eidos Interactive’s parent company, SCi, is in talks with two companies that could potentially lead to a buyout of the company.
If that cynical voice in the back of your head is saying that Electronic Arts is one of those companies, you’d be right. After all, this wouldn’t be the first time that EA has inquired about buying the Tomb Raider publisher. If the idea of EA owning the rights to Lara and friends has you concerned, don’t fear! Much like Zorro, swinging through the glass windows to rescue the damsel in distress is none other than French publisher Ubisoft.
…I guess when you consider that EA holds a 25% stake in Ubisoft, Zorro there walks around with a limp and a stump hand, but it’s still Zorro.
The renewed interest in SCi was spawned by some rather disturbing numbers. Over the past year SCi has seen its stock prices nosedive some 92% while its losses have nearly quadrupled. Facing a mountain of debt and declining income, the time to sell appears to be now.
