Early this week author Cooper Lawrence appeared on Faux Noise to “discuss” the issue of sex in video games. I’ll save everyone the backstory and simply say that Lawrence freely admitted and even laughed at the thought of playing the game that she was so easily willing to slander on national television. Well, her ignorant misassumptions and characterizations of Mass Effect didn’t fly so well with Electronic Arts… or anyone else for that matter.

There are very few issues that unite the entire gaming community, but this was definitely one of them. Gaming as a whole has kind of gotten used to people looking at the industry from the outside and making rashly incorrect assumptions, but in the case of Lawrence, it simply went so far over the line that the industry as a whole, from websites to TV shows to even Electronic Arts itself called out both Lawrence and Fox News, demanding that they both set the record straight.

Well, congratulations – Cooper Lawrence has seen the wrong of her ways. Kind of.

In an interview with the New York Times on Friday, Cooper Lawrence says that she now realizes that she has misspoke, going on to say “I really regret saying that, and now that I’ve seen the game and seen the sex scenes it’s kind of a joke”. But wait, there is more. From the New York Times article:

Before the show I had asked somebody about what they had heard, and they had said it’s like pornography… But it’s not like pornography. I’ve seen episodes of ‘Lost’ that are more sexually explicit.

Well, I’m glad Ms. Lawrence finally sees the error in her ways, even if in my personal opinion she’s simply going through the motions to try and save her book, which irate gamers have knocked down to 346,106 on Amazon’s rankings.

Regardless, Lawrence has stepped up and admitted her wrongs – it’s your turn, Faux.
