Chinese MMO Pulls a ‘Limbo’, Steals From Other Games

Remember Limbo of the Lost? You know, that “game” that became a punchline over the summer when it was discovered that it had lifted content from The Elder Scrolls IV, Thief, Diablo II, World of Warcraft and Silent Hill 4, amongst other games?

Well, it seems that Limbo is not alone. The Chinese MMO Aurora Blade appears to have taken a lot of its content from games like World of Warcraft and Ragnarok Online. In fact, as far as Ragnarok Online goes, the accusations are of Limbo-esque plagiarism.

Here’s where things get weird. The company that publishes the game, IGG, the Western-based publisher of Aurora Blade has started issuing warning after warning. First they issued a statement on their own website in which they did their best to try and disassociate themselves with the company that developed the game:

We would like to explain that SkyUnion(IGG) is not responsible for the developing of the game, that is any character, artwork and graphic is developed by another company and this game is HOSTED by IGG.

But that wasn’t enough for IGG, it seems. A representative from IGG went to the Ragnarok Online forums and proceeded to threaten the Ragnarok posters with banning from the IGG forums.

Which makes no sense.

So you may be wondering who developed this game. Well, according to IGG the developer is Mui World. At least, I think that’s the developer’s name — that’s the URL and I can’t read Japanese Chinese to save my life, so I’m going to assume that it is. Correct me if I’m wrong.

What will become of the game is still up in the air, but if you want to see the plagarized material for yourself, Shacknews has a few comparison shots.
