Championship Gaming Series Shuts Down

DirecTV, Star TV and Sky Broadcasting have jointly announced that the Championship Gaming Series has met its demise.
In a statement released today (November 18th), the CGS team explained the decision as well as talked about their ultimate goal:
While the concept was ahead of its time and we are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished, it became increasingly clear as this ambitious project evolved, that profitability was too far in the future for us to sustain operations in the interim.
Our goal was to be ahead of the curve in the e-sports space, and we conceived of CGS as a true sports league. We invested wholeheartedly in the venture and presented viewers with a top-notch production, but the economics just didn’t add up for us at this time.
The full statement can be read on the CGS website.
I actually liked CGS a lot. The scoring system was a bit flawed when it came to racing games and I’m quite sure “Fatal1ty” is waging a one-man war on charisma, but overall it presented a more compelling way to watch competitive gaming. The mixture of game types (racing, fighting, FPS) kept your attention, the teams themselves had charisma, and for once you weren’t bored to tears by watching video games.
Unlike other professional gaming leagues.
You will be missed, CGS.
