Castlevania Movie Threatened by Actor’s Strike – Fans of Quality Entertainment Rejoice

Trevor Belmont - Ribbon Dancer!Less than a year after the WGA strike left millions with nothing to do on Thursday nights aside from interacting with their families (yuck, who’d want to do that?), the over-looming threat of an Actor’s Guild strike leaves the masses wondering what the future holds for Friday night (weekday famous for paychecks and new films in movie theaters on which to spend them).

Thankfully, there is at least one good thing to be found in an Actor’s Guild strike—it’ll put a stop to some of those god-forsaken video game movies that keep popping up in theaters, preventing them from filling movie-goers’ experiences with mass quantities of suck.

Well, it’ll at least put a stop to Paul W.S. Anderson’s Castlevania.  And not a moment too soon.  Read more after the break.

According to articles by Joystiq and IGN, plans for the film are up in the air until there’s a resolution with the Actor’s Guild.  IGN quotes Anderson:

“We still want to make the movie, but I can’t say we’re going into production in January or anything like that. It’s a project that everybody likes. I love the videogame. I think the script is really strong. Everyone is really enthusiastic about it, but we’re still in the process of deciding when the movie gets shot.”

Anderson goes on to comment on the state of the industry, saying:

“This year has been unbelievably chaotic for the film industry with the writers strike followed by the perpetual threat of a SAG strike. It’s one thing if you’re making a huge movie where you have $200 million and you say, ‘Oh, [expletive] it. There’s a SAG strike. We’ll just wait.’ For other movies it’s very difficult to go into production if there’s a threat that you’ll have to close down. Not many movies can afford to take the hit of putting the cast and crew on hiatus for months while the strikes gets resolved. So I think in terms of anything we’re developing there won’t be any sort of priority until the SAG strike is resolved.”

Thankfully, Anderson has also confirmed he is no longer involved in the Spy Hunter film.  IGN quotes him as saying, “There was a script that came in that I was not very enthusiastic about so I’m not attached to that anymore.”

Phew.  Two down, twenty-six to go.
