Capcom is making Mega Man 9 a glitchy good time

When Mega Man 9 was announced, everyone was excited to see that the game would be a recreation of the classic 8-bit experience from the days of NES. I don’t think any of us had any idea just how authentic Capcom was going to make the 8-bit experience, though. You see, Capcom is programming intentional sprite flickers to simulate the console not being able to process all the information.

I shall repeat this: Capcom is intentionally programming graphical glitches to complete the 8-bit feel. Fucking awesome.

Yeah, there were some things, like you couldn’t have more than three enemies on the screen at once, so we had to make sure that that’s how it stayed in our game… In the part with the dragon with the flame, [there should be] flickering, and whatnot.

Now, it should be noted that the sprite flickers are an optional feature — but so what? We’re all still going to buy the game.
