Capcom: Fan contest was ‘a terrible idea’

One thing I have said time and again is that if you let gamers, especially the self-anointed “hardcore” gamers, run anything in the video game industry, they will inevitably find a way to fucking ruin it. Such is the case with We Love Golf for the Nintendo Wii, where Capcom asked fans to select alternate costumes for characters in the game. So what did “the fans” pick?

Stephanie can now resemble Morrigan, and Mark is now the first African American Ken Masters, of Street Fighter fame.

So, what did Capcom say about the contest?

Everybody at Capcom had lots of extremely good reasons why this was a terrible idea… But then we did it anyway!

Um, ouch. Well, sometimes I guess that in order to learn a lesson, you have to completely fail. In that sense, congratulations to you, Capcom! You now know better!
