The first details regarding Call of Duty 5 have been made public, and have been met with an apathetic yawn from the gaming public. Where Call of Duty 4 brought us to the modern day, Call of Duty: World at War looks to take us back to the 1940s. But you see, unlike previous WWII games that had you fighting the evil Nazi war machine in Europe, Call of Duty: World at War has us fighting a brand new enemy: The Japanese!
Why, the only other WWII game that has you fighting the Japanese is Medal of Honor: Rising Sun! …oh, and Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault… World War II Combat: Iwo Jima… Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater… The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific… come to think of it there have been a few WWII shooters set in the Pacific Theater.
Either way, the game itself will probably turn out to be pretty good. Developer Treyarch has done a good job in the past with the Call of Duty franchise (i.e. Call of Duty 3). Little is known about the game so far, but according to UK magazine ‘GamesTM’, the game will open to an especially gruesome torture scene, complete with cigarettes to the eyes and the slitting of throats. Ouch.
Call of Duty: World at War will also sport Co-Op (a first), as well as vehicular combat in its multiplayer.
Sounds like the game has a lot of promise. Now if we could just leave WWII alone for a few decades… either way, Call of Duty: World at War will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PC, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. When? Hell if I know.
