Blizzard Sues Popular WoW Bot Creator

Blizzard has filed lawsuit against Michael Donnelly. If you don’t know who he is, then you obviously play World of Warcraft (I had no idea who he was, either). If you do play WoW, odds are you may have downloaded Donnelly’s Glider program, which can be used to automate tasks that you’re just too lazy to do — like gold farming.

Blizzard, in their legal filings submitted to a court in Arizona, claims that Donnelly’s program both infringes Blizzard’s EULA, and in fact damages the game:

“Blizzard’s designs expectations are frustrated, and resources are allocated unevenly, when bots are introduced into the WoW universe, because bots spend far more time in-game than an ordinary player would and consume resources the entire game.”

Donnelly claims that more than 100,000 copies of the bot have been sold. Considering that the current userbase for WoW is over 10,000,000, banning everybody using this program from WoW would result in Blizzard losing roughly 1% of their users.

Donnelly, in his submitted legal documents, played the role of “butthurt crybaby”:

“When they arrived, they presented Donnelly with a copy of a complaint that they had indicated would be filed the next day in the US District Court for the Central District of California if Donnelly did not immediately agree to stop selling Glider and return all profits that he made from Glider sales…

Blizzard’s audacious threats offended Donnelly.”

Donnelly was offended by Blizzard telling him to stop? Well, maybe you shouldn’t have been selling a program that violated Blizzard’s EULA, crybaby.

wow.. talk about full of yourself there. This is why i enjoy blogging; all the opinion you can get away with, and more.

Also, fix your opening sentence. I have no idea who this guy is, and i wouldn’t go near WoW even if you paid me.

By the way, when you use quotation marks, cite a reference, or you just come off as a “raving douchebag” (see: your “butthurt crybaby” comment). Douchebag.
