Best Buy to discontinue carrying 80GB PS3
Is the 80GB PS3 going the way of the 60GB & 20GB PS3s? At Best Buy, the answer seemingly is a resounding “yesâ€. An anonymous Best Buy employee has sent PS3 Fanboy a scan of an internal memo which reads, in part, “The 80GB version of the PS3 is going closeout and won’t be replaced at this time.â€
According to the memo, the 80GB PS3 will be coming coming off their planogram on January 28th (Monday), effectively killing the 80GB model in Best Buy stores.
It is unknown at this time whether this is temporary or a permanent move. However this will surely fuel the rumors about a $299 PlayStation 3 model, and the removal of the 80GB PS3 may even be a move by Sony to open up a market for the new, white PS3 model that was filed with the FCC.
We’ll just have to wait and see – however if you want a SKU with guaranteed Backwards Compatibility, go out and buy a PS3 today. It may be your last chance.
