Doug Creutz, an analyst for Cowen Group and therefore not a cool ghostwriter name for Michael Pachter, believes that it is “highly likely” that Activision will ship some kind of skateboard peripheral with their next entry in the highly successful Tony Hawk game.
Creutz called Activision “the best company in an attractive industry”, and went on to explain that a Tony Hawk game in 2009, after having a year off, could do the franchise well in terms of sales figures:
We believe that the extra year of development time and the opportunity for consumers to shake off franchise fatigue could contribute to better unit sales than the franchise has enjoyed in recent years.
Now, obviously Activision is no stranger to having big ass peripheral controllers for their games. After all, I’m pretty sure we all own at least one Guitar Hero ax. But to say that a skateboard peripheral would be a slight departure would immediately be a finalist for the “understatement of the year” award.
Still, though. Should Activision decide to go this route it would definitely generate a ton of buzz. Hopefully we’ll hear something about this in the not-too-distant future.
