A report from Variety (oh, brother) claims that developers at Sierra Games are growing displeased because they may have to pitch all of their titles to their new bosses at Activision.
According to Ben Fritz at Variety’s blog “The Cut Scene”, all development teams for the former Vivendi Games have to re-pitch their ideas to Activision, and from the sound of things it seems that Sierra Games will be going through some definite changes in the near future.
“Development teams on all of Vivendi’s games now have ot essentially pitch their projects to Activision executives…
“Until the merger is technically complete, work proceeds as usual, but once it’s over, Activisoin will start making some decisions. And it seems very unlikely that everything at Sierra will keep going as it has been.”
Now for those of you who are worried that games from Sierra that are due for a 2008 release (ala Ghostbusters) may be pushed back, don’t fret — games that will see a 2008 release will most likely not be affected. However, projects due in ‘09 may get the ax before they ever truly get off the ground.
We all know why Activision bought Vivendi Games — they wanted Blizzard, and World of Warcraft. So, while Blizzard may get a free pass from Activision for the forseeable future, all other aspects of Vivendi will have to fall in line like everyone else which, according to Fritz, “leaves some nervous developers at Sierra.”
